Jean Drysdale: A new bag

I finished this partly 'cracked earth' bag yesterday. Thank you Iris and Thelma for your advice . Altogether it has 8 layers of British wools, darker underneath, white in the middle for contrast and finished with lovely Blue Faced Leicester. Good, strong and light weight.

Spring Exhibition

Our first exhibition was held on the Saturday 18th in Dunnington Reading Rooms. It was a great day with fantastic items on show. At first we created a general themed display called "Springtime" to which all group members contributed a one item.

Then there were a few tables and stands where the great variety of felted pieces were presented:

 There was a raffle table:

Tea and cakes corner:

There were so many visitors it seemed crowded sometimes!

Demonstrations of wet and needle felting and embellishing machine:

Dear all! I'd like to thank you all for all your efforts in making this day a very special! I have a plenty more pictures and promise to make a few posts with  more detailed report.

P.S. Just a short reminder that there will be another weekend of York Open Studios event with a lot of established artists and some new for this year. In  Textiles category  we have our Angela Anning with her new amazing works! And I personally recommend Cathy Needham who's works I admire.

FELTMAKERS NEWS

The last two months have passed quickly with two good workshops :

In September Catherine Slater showed her technique of laying out the fibres for the finest finish, demonstrating her lovely wearable art and versatility of multifunctional designs. Due to other commitments the group was only small however I understand that the results were stunning and everyone was very satisfied. Some pictures of work shop are HERE. Those of you who attended please bring your gossamer pieces to the next meeting for a "show and tell".

You can see HERE pictures from the October workshop on hand warmers, where we showed different techniques, with very satisfying results. Again could you please bring your pieces to the next meeting. We got some pictures of finished piece. Thank you Lesley!

Our next workshop is on Saturday November 15 2014.Jackie Lunn - Experimental Felt - Cutworkand Applique. There is only one place left on this workshop, so if you haven't booked and are interested please get in touch with Margaret Chalmers first.

PLEASE NOTE  that even on workshop days, the regular afternoon sessions are still taking place for those who are not taking part on the workshop, so come along with your own project and just enjoy an afternoon felting with friends, bouncing ideas off each other, supporting and advising each other, or just simply enjoy a chat and a cup of tea!

If you miss this next workshop/afternoon session on Saturday 15th November, please remember that there will be another afternoon session on Saturday 13th December 2014
